Punch Brothers - P-Bingo Rocks My Socks
I have mixed feelings on this concert.
Punch Brothers Kick Ass
On the one hand, the music was hot. Not just hot, but hot. They played all sorts of great things including some old school music by Bach and Mozart. They brought in Sometymes Why on a few songs, which was suitably amazing, including a part where Gabe Witcher sang a bass line since Paul Kowert was gone for the night. Sheriff Uncle Bob, the Sheriff of Good Times, lead the group on two songs, and Pickle's Song was amazing, as expected.
The Punch Brothers clearly had a great time on stage. They enjoy what they do. Which is great. That fun feeling sneaks into me as I listen to their recorded music now (yes, I bought a few cds as a result of this concert...a new trend for me).
Seeing them in a small venue was also really great. There are so few artists of this caliber you can encounter in situations like this.
Punch Brothers at the LivingRoom Sucked
We got there early. Over 2 hours early. We were about 10 people back from the front of the line, but that seemed OK. We knew that they must have more than 10 seats. So, for 2 hours we stood in line, sucking down beers and chatting with fellow fans. The line went up the stairs and curled around in the upstairs room. People wanted to sit on the stairs, but as the bouncer kept reminding us that is not allowed. So...the line started to get into the room and to our surprise there were no more seats. WTF. Apparently a set of folks is getting in before the line gets processed. Bummer.
The room was also pretty overcrowded which meant that we had people behind us pushing and asking if their short girlfriend could stand in front of me. I'm 1.9 meters tall. If I let everyone shorter than me move forward I would be at the back of the room.
My advice:
- Charge a higher price
- Sell fewer tickets
- Give out seat assignments in advance, OR honor the order of the line for seating
I didn't wait in line for 2 hours to get to stand for the whole concert.
It's an idle threat to say I'll never go to another concert at the Living Room...I don't live in NYC.

Awesome review!
Ezra on Wed, 03/11/2009 - 4:06pmGreat to hear you bought some albums. Which ones were they?
I'm planning to catch their show at the Livingroom tomorrow night (gotta post it on Concertology) and I hope that there's less of a pre-line line, or at least that I don't have to stand for 4 hours in order to see the show.
