Review of Kottke and Wainwright at Botanic Gardens
I went to see Leo Kottke and Loudon Wainwright III at the Botanical gardens because of my fond memories of concerts at the gardens as a kid. I remembered a family event, complete with picnics and blankets. This concert was my first at the Botanical gardens some 13 years later and the scene was just as I remembered it. I loved the open air and the family feel. What could be better on a Friday night than reclining in the grass, the sun setting as you listen to Leo Kottke play his guitar?
Well for one thing the sound. Much of the sound seemed to be lost to the sky, and lacked a sort of crispness. Also, because I believe of the relaxed picnic feel, many people thought it was ok to talk while Leo Kottke was playing.
Loudon's performance came as a shock, because I had no idea what to expect. He was a little crude and very crazy. I found some of his silly songs very entertaining, but some were just annoying. I really wished he didn't move his tongue around so much.
Overall, it was very nice to lounge about and hear some great music.
